Dear Brothers, A whole year has passed since I have last written, as if you hadn't noticed. Kyra and I are doing very well. Kyra made a career switch from retail to finance and is now the assistant branch manager at American General Financial, which she loves as it gives her a 9-5, Monday-Friday schedule. In her spare time, when I'm either at school or at working at earning her green belt in Taekwondo! I am pleased to say that school is progressing well. I eagerly anticipate graduating in either Spring or Fall of 2009. My degree will be in Political Science, and Economics… go figure, right? Haha. At Missoula 13, I was appointed Senior Deacon for this Masonic year. This may change depending on the results of the elections occurring in January due to the consolidation of Harmony 49 into Missoula 13. I'm enjoying my time as S.D. Moreover, I'm happy to finally see our lodge growing. There was more drama and less brotherhood last year, and it was painful to be absent from lodge, but even more painful to attend it. There was no direction, and the W.M. hadn't the slightest clue on how to open lodge, conduct a lodge meeting, close lodge, or put on degree work. To be truthful, it seemed like many lacked basic knowledge of Freemasonry. This hurts to admit, but as brothers, we need to hear it if we expect to get better. It was a tragedy, because many men stopped attending, and it was difficult to generate excitement for new men. The regular attendees seemed to be going through the motions, including myself. This year, however, I'm pleased to say that things are evolving quite well. Our W.M. Colbert Howell is a fantastic Mason and well organized I might add. Through his leadership we're better enabled to start new programs and initiatives to educate our Brothers, and generate excitement about being Masons. I am petitioning for a key through our Temple Board so that I can start up Saturday morning coffee!!! For all the reasons we do it at Euclid, we're gonna do it in Missoula as well! Being made a Mason and serving as Junior Warden at Euclid is like growing up with a silver spoon in your mouth. It seems really easy to be critical of the way other lodges do things once you've seen the way things should be done. Way to go guys! Keep being that city on the hill in Montana. Just know that I'll be watching, and Missoula 13 is catching up. I miss you all very much. Br. John D. my heart sunk when I was informed about your son. I am sorry for your loss. Br. Al Johnson, I'm sorry about Lillian! Kyra and I thought you two were the cutest couple. I was also very humbled to discover the passing away of W.B. Floyd Knobbs… I can remember the first Saturday morning coffee I attended (in Dec. '04) while W.B. Roger was fixing breakfast, Bro. Floyd showed me around. What a square guy! Though it's been seven months, I would be remiss if I didn't express my deepest sorrow for W.B. Jesse Shaw. Words cannot express my feelings… so I will not try as it still upsets me to think about. Trina, know that you are loved and thought about often. And finally, November 3rd will make two years since the passing of our beloved W.B. Dave Bakas. Ria and family, you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Gosh, trying to fit a years worth of sentiment and thought into one newsletter is difficult… most of you know why… because I'm the best at turning a three words sentence into a five paragraph essay. Haha… I had a lot on my mind… again, all is well… I miss you all very much. Call or write anytime… I will do my best to contribute to my cobwebbed corner in a more timely manner. Until next time… keep this in mind. Wisdom cometh not by age, but by knowledge. (ancient Roman proverb) With Brotherly Love, Gregory L. Treible a.k.a. Puddin'
10/1/06 Brothers from Euclid!!! Greetings from the West! ‘Tis I once again, to update you as to the current goings on as Masonry in Montana rolls on… First and foremost, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention for those of you who may not already know, Kyra and I married on July 23rd… so for those of you with dirty minds… HANDS OFF – lest I be forced to physically restrain you while reminding you of YOUR obligation! I am happy to say that I have been visiting Missoula #13 and am in the process of petitioning for a plural membership. (As it was explained to me by W. Br. “Sarge” Selk, Secy/ Missoula 13, a dual membership is reserved for those brothers who’s home lodge is ‘out of state’, therefore plural membership is reserved for those brothers who have relocated within the state of his home lodge) Pretty interesting… Anyhow, I must say that I am emphatically enthralled to be honored with the privilege of spreading “the Euclid way” or should I say, carrying the Euclid torch. I have already Master’d one EA degree here, and was asked to Master another at our next meeting! The Brothers in Missoula have taken well to me. For that I am humbly well pleased. The U of M is treating me well thus far! As most of you are already aware, I am studying foreign relations with a minor in Chinese… I can’t wait to visit and share with you my new language. I am also currently interning for one of our two state Senators (who will remain nameless so as to not portray a bias of some sort) This should prove to be a very interesting platform from which my public service will expand. Next semester I will be interning for an organization more relevant to my studies in international politics – the UN Association USA, MT chapter. And these internships will culminate in a study abroad opportunity I would like to take advantage of -- in China!!! Well, I certainly wish Euclid’s WM Thom L. the best of luck during this new year. I’m sure Euclid will remain at the pinnacle of light yet again this year! I cannot wait to hear about it. With married life moving extremely well… school’s on at full force, and while working to pay the bills, I must say that I’ve been very busy… but I will always take time to speak to my Brothers… so if you’ve got the time and wanna chat… give me a buzz… and with that I will close for now… May you all travel in peace and health. Fraternally and Forever, Gregory Treible, “puddin’”
4-21-2006 Dear Brothers and friends, I have been terribly remiss in my commitment to this newsletter. I hope you'll pardon me for my negligence the past, let's see, 1-2-3 months… geez… 3 months… goodness. Anyhow… for those of you who are unfamiliar with us personally, but out of curiosity for Masonry you peruse our website, I'm back!!! Much has occurred in the last few months. Let me update you Br. Ron, Br. Justin, Br. Anthony F., Br. Alex, are among others who have completed the path to light with respect to receiving the third and final degree of craft Masonry. It gives me great pleasure to finally call these fine gentlemen, Brothers, and have it actually mean something. Gents, you'll find that Masonry is much like a gyre of knowledge… you've got all these pieces of the puzzle, clues surrounding you everywhere you look. Your Masonic journey takes you through these gyres and allows you to funnel that "light" into something more powerful, highly concentrated. Then at last, when you think you've just about reached that point at which you are satisfied, you realize that the very end of that particular gyre in which you've just traveled only ends at the point that you find yourself on the outskirts of the top of another gyre. It's almost like our acquisition of scientific and technological knowledge that allows us to view outer space. Once we think we've reached the end… we quickly discover that we're trapped in a galaxy within another galaxy that perpetuates unto infinity. Mathematics gentlemen, mathematics… talk about sacred geometry. I must wholehearted thank both W.Br. Roger C. and Br. Alan F. for the single-handed way in which they organized and executed an outstanding George Washington Convocation (Royal Arch, York Rite) and subsequently an ever-mind-imprinting experience in both the York Rite Council and culminating in the mind-blowing Consistory (Order of the Knights Templar) I am proud to be dubbed Sir Knight Puddn'!!! The dining hall, and Saturday coffee hour meeting area painting jobs are coming along very well. I would like to offer many thanks to the Brothers assisting the Temple Board of Trustees with this project. Also, there are talks of paving our parking lot behind our magnificent temple… so thus shows how busy the spring and summer months can become. Last year the major project was our roof… and this should give you some indication as to what we're doing in name of temple beautification now. I want to say that I could go on forever with information in this newsletter, but I will pull it to a close for now. I hate to admit this, but on July 1st 2006 I will depart Great Falls, for Missoula to complete my undergraduates degree in Political Science, after which I am considering all options, but I'd like serve again by re-entering the USAF with a commission. My ultimate goal is to become a Professor of Political Science… the paths to get there are many, and I sincerely thank and appreciate all the time that my Brothers (you know who you are) have invested into guiding my many thought processes into a focus. I'll write more about my departure in the newsletters to come. Meanwhile, I will look for a worthy Brother to take over… Until next time, travel "LIGHT" and be well. Gregory L. Treible -- Puddn' Thought of the Week… Does mankind have free-will, or are we guided by fate under the veil of free-will???
1-23-06 Dear Brothers and friends, This week is off to a great start for me… as I awoke out of my wonderful world of slumber at about, oh, 2:30 this morning -- hate it when that happens -- so I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed and thought I'd write to inform you of the great Saturday that had just passed. Br. Anthony K. and Br. Alan F. engaged in an interesting discussion about the interpretation of law with respect to the first amendment of the constitution… very heated… but I must say, how good and how pleasant it is for Brothers to dwell together in unity. These Brothers, in particular, whilst discussing their opposing opinions with each other still maintain civility and decency as our Brotherhood supersedes dissension of any kind… this is another reason that I take pride in Freemasonry. The chemistry between illegal substances and their pharmaceutical effects on the body capped off an interesting talk between Br. Alan and myself… after which we all gathered around Br. Ron F. who gave a word perfect Fellowcraft proficiency… Br. Ron -- your time has almost come… death will soon shadow you… will you allow it to overtake you??? If so… then your rebirth will soon follow… If not… the LIGHT will be extinguished, the sun will set in the west never to rise again. Which I'm almost certain will not be the case for you… time is of the essence my Brother… your time is coming soon… Br. Justin M. will soon give is Fellowcraft proficiency… and when it he does, it will be his part to take in the evening of the hourglass, who's granules of sand flow like water until the top is empty, signifying that his time is up… ;-) At this point, I should also make mention that our Annual Feast of Saints John was a tremendous success as usual. We had a great turnout of Brothers who gathered together in fellowship of two great Patrons in Masonry; Saint John the Baptist, and Saint John the Evangelist… I will bring this to a close for now… Look well to the EAST, my Brothers, in your travels toward more knowledge. I leave you with this thought… Knowledge truly is power. You have the power to impart it upon others who are worthy. And those deemed otherwise, you have a responsibility to withhold it. Knowledge in the wrong hands can be dangerous… Good day to you all… Question of the Week: Was the purpose of the U.S. Constitution to protect the minority? My email is g_treible@msn.com. I would love to exchange ideas on this question. Gregory L. Treible aka "Br. Puddin'"
January 17th, 2006 -- Stated Meeting with 4 Entered Apprentice Degrees Good day to you my Honorable Brothers, and guests. I have the pleasure of reflecting on four great Entered Apprentice Brothers who've made it through their initiation on the first degree of Masonry. Br. Jeff A., a member of our U.S. Air Force, who we've finally caught up with after his initiatory process was suspended due to a deployment. Br. Tony K., Br. Sean R., and Br. Alex P., are also members of our Air Force currently stationed at Malmstrom AFB. We wish each of our new Brothers a warm welcome to this, the most Ancient, Honorable, and Illustrious society of Illuminated Minds in the world. After a rather lengthy evening of degree work, we wrapped up a quick business meeting in hopes of subduing our appetites in the dining room where we all succumbed to a wonderful Master's table of deserts to include Br. Dan S's. mother's famous rum cake… we all owe Mother S. a debt of gratitude for all the wonderful rum cakes we've enjoyed. Not a crumb ever remains… I shall write more in the near future… but for now… I will close… travel light, my Brothers… Puddin' P.S. -- Please have a look at our photo gallery… as you will see W Br. Keith H., Br. Hank L., and I with our newly made Entered Apprentices'.
January 3rd 2006 -- Stated Meeting and Fellowcraft Degree Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!! Please forgive me for not having written in a month. I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday festivities of the preceding weeks. As I understand, W.Br. Roger's annual Christmas Dinner at the Temple was a grand success with a great turn-out, as are all occasions where Br. Roger cooks. He is quite the chef!!! Well… onto the new year… it's 2006 and our first meeting proved to be fantastic!!! Brothers Justin M. and Ron F. were both passed to the degree of a fellowcraft in our illustrious fraternity. Both brothers show great excitement and energy as their 'rebirth' is in sight… February 7th!!! "Death" draws near as "LIGHT" casts their shadow!!! Brother Miles N. has been visiting the last few weeks while on vacation from school. It's always great to see Miles, as he provides a fresh light to different concepts of thought. Miles grandfather, Br. Chester R. gave a flawless rendition of the F & AM second section of the Fellowcraft degree. Br. Chester is 90 years old, and remains on the top of the ritualists in lodge. It's always an honor and pleasure to see him do work. Thanks Brother! This one I'll draw to a close for now… After tomorrow's coffee hour, I'm sure their will be something for me to add… until then… it's vastly approaching midnight and you have until morning to discover the light. Ever remember… the sun always rises in the EAST!!!
Please see NEWS AFTER PUDDIN for update 1/6/06
Dec 6, 2005 -- Master Mason Degree/Stated Meeting/Prince Hall Commemoration Treasured Brothers and friends, December 6, 2005 is in the books and was a very busy evening for Euclid Lodge. Beginning at 6PM, we held a commemorative dinner in honor of our local Prince Hall Lodge (Northern Lights Lodge) W.Br. Frank G. was in attendance and we enjoyed a wonderful feast with great brotherly fellowship. "Thank you Br. Anthony for the undertaking and developing the idea for the PH commemoration." After dinner, we all retired to the third floor for our stated meeting and a Master Mason degree for Br. James J. I must say that it was a great success, as all of our ritual work seems to be. I would like to take this opportunity to truly welcome Br. James into this wonderful Fraternity. Travel Light, and enjoy the ride! During our stated meeting we balloted on four potential candidates… with favorable results. These particular gentlemen from your Great Falls community will be tapped very soon for their initiatory requirements. There are a couple of questions remaining these gentlemen must respond according to our ancient customs, and if found in favor they may pursue their desire in receiving Masonic light. We ended our meeting at about quarter to eleven, after which all my Brothers found pleasure for their sweet tooth at the Masters table. Again, thank you Br. Anthony for providing such decedent deserts. Br. Tim R. thank you for finally returning unto us after a long stint of scheduling conflicts due to his career progression in the Air Force. Br. Tim is now a Missile Combat Crew Commander. Last night's Master's table stimulated intellectual thought just as it stimulated our appetites for cakes, ice cream, and cookies… the conversation regarded the fallacies in certain religious thought and theory. Until next time… take care, and travel LIGHT!!! With Brotherly Love, Gregory Treible -- (Puddin')
Dec 3, 2005 -- Therapeutic coffee hour Good afternoon brothers and friends… I thought I should write to mention that our Br. Justin M. came down and finally gave his proficiency. It was flawlessly spectacular and he is definitely eager to be passed to the Fellowcraft degree… if he survives… of course… ;-) Anyhow… we had a fabulous turn out this morning, despite the arctic chill in the air… yeah… I started my car this morning and the internal thermometer read 2 degrees… by about noon time it had climbed up to a balmy 14 degrees… this is Great Falls for you… Speaking of proficiencies… Br. James Jendro came down this morning and delivered a perfect Fellowcraft proficiency and is now ready to be reborn and raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason this coming Tuesday evening… it should be fun… if he makes it through -- alive…. Muahahahaha!!! Just playing… seriously though, I have to give the conspiracy theorists something to talk about… Anyhow… to add to this Tuesday's meeting we will be honoring our Prince Hall Brothers with a dinner and our degree work… It is definitely going to be a great time… and as usual, we will have prepared lavish deserts for after the meeting… I can't wait… I will soon write again… until then -- take care!!! Puddin'
November 15th 2005, -- Stated Meeting/EA Degree Well Brothers, I keep promising Br. Alan, and Br. Anthony to assist them with articles for our newsletter, but have not done well at keeping my word. So, now, I sit in reflection of my day, and I am inspired to write to share a few words. First of all, it was a cold evening here in Great Falls tonight. Certainly a reminder that winter is on its way. Euclid Lodge #58 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons met for the usual stated meeting and, may I add, two very successful Entered Apprentice degree ceremonies with which to initiate Brother Anthony Pfleger (EA) and Brother Ronald Furiato (EA). Br. Anthony P. and Br. Ron, on behalf of our lodge, I congratulate the two of you for your initiation into the World's most ancient and honorable fraternity. I only hope that your new journey into light will be as fulfilling as it is to me as well as the rest of our Brothers. Enjoy!!! After our meeting, we enjoyed fine desserts, coffee that would put Starbucks out of business, great company and conversation that could only be provided by such a dynamic group of men. All of whom inspire intellectual growth… all of whom I have great pleasure in knowing and proudly call them "Brother". After a couple of games of pool in the billiards room, we decided to close our evening without diving too deeply into the intellectual realm of conversation as we most often tend to do -- inasmuch as keeping us matching wits with each other for a large portion of the night into the wee hours of the morning… perhaps our Saturday morning coffee hour will bring new light to the table… November 19th 2005, -- Saturday Morning Coffee This morning, we met for our usual coffee and donut breakfast… we shared moments of our week… nothing too noteworthy for public mention… but we did skim over the news headlines that made the paper and made sense of the worlds top issues… Unfortunately, we missed W.Br. Roger C. this morning… as he is in St. Louis picking up the recent Mercedes Benz he purchased. Oh, and let the record show that Roger did reply in the affirmative when I asked him if I could take it for a spin. ;-) We managed to sneak in a couple of pool games… I propose that next week we fire up the Karaoke. Unfortunately, we called it "good" at about noon, I had to get home to tend to Kyra (my fiancé) who was feeling a little under the weather. Most of the Brothers followed… so until we meet again, travel light -- and enjoy the week… oh, and GO REDSKINS!!! Hahaha… had to get that in… Hey, it's my corner… I can say what I want!!! Thought of the week… If you never know where you're going… you can never get lost!!! Challenge for the week… Try and translate this Latin phrase… Dei OptimiMaximi, Universitatis Rerum Fontis AcOriginis Ad Gloriam
