Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog  Free downloadable e-books of the great classics of history, literature, arts and science. A great and valuable website worthy of our support and attention.

Brother François-Marie Arouet better known by the name Voltaire, is considered the Father of the French and European Enlightenment. He was an essayist, Deist, and philosopher. Later in life, he became a great friend of Benjamin Franklin who introduced him to Masonry, and who was also present at Voltaire's raising to a Master Mason.

"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."  - Voltaire

"In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money from one class of citizens to give it to another."  - Voltaire

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."  - Voltaire

"The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease." - Voltaire

"God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh. " - Voltaire

"If you have two religions in your land, the two will cut each other's throats; but if you have thirty religions, they will dwell in peace" - Voltaire
